On December 22nd, the boys were fired up as the mega swell rolled in, and the surf forecast was looking promising compared to last years mega swell, at least that's what the buoy's were reading. As the first light of dawn hit the horizon, the air was thick with anticipation. They wanted to set their eyes on Oil Platform Esther which for the most part is a novelty in our open ocean. It can hold a big swell and with the right tide can ultimately throw a heavy lip at takeoff but it quickly goes to deep water. All the heads were frothing and loaded up the gun's into el Jeffe's (Chief's) center console whaler. When they got out there all levels of froth went to extremes and the boys were on trying to charge the biggest waves that came in that morning under the platform. We say this wave is a novelty because in reality it doesn't have that much of a consequence because it runs to deep water quick but a mistake during the initial takeoff would ring your bell no doubt. YES, there was mistakes and people ate shit. That's all apart of the fun. One of the heaviest moments was watching an outrigger canoe try an attempt to be out there and surf a wave which lead to a hectic moment that plowed the canoe and everyone onboard and it sent the boys into lifeguard mode making surf everyone was okay. All in all the boys got waves and raised their heart rates for a lil adrenaline and finsiehd it off with celebratory pacifico's in the lineup. We would say that makes this swell story a success. Till next time Pacific Northwest...
